There appears to be an element of built-in obsolescence, and there are also issues with appliances seeming to break more easily and need more maintenance. Your dishwasher will need some TLC as well. If you’re going on a long trip, disconnect the water supply and give the dishwasher a thorough cleaning. It will thank you for it.

Those companies that offer appliance maintenance aren’t trying to stick you for a lot of money for no good reason. They have years of expertise that they are applying to your company. If you want to make sure that your appliances last a long time, then read the care manual and follow the instructions. Descale your appliances, and keep them clean. Don’t use washing machine balls if your manual says that they might damage the inner workings – because they really could cause problems. Be pro-active and follow the care instructions and you should find that your appliances will survive for a lot longer.
